Intermedia is an event-based programme that explores possibilities of counterpointing film, audio, visuals, and performative elements. We hope to invite practitioners interested in the refinement of their practice by challenging and exploring the possibilities in layering various mediums via architecture (metaverse), AR, VR, and live broadcasting.
In the colony, landscape paintings produced spatial knowledges of the 'Australian' frontier. Intimately and forcefully entangled in exercises of power, lands, waters, bodies and knowledges, DIGGERMODE asks how might the material flows of data storage and AI be implicated in the multiple sites they are constituted of?
DIGGERMODE is a performance lecture and forthcoming video commission for ACMI. Join our Intermedia artist-in-residence Joel Sherwood Spring where he introduces some of the research and images from his forthcoming video work.

Tracing the material and cultural implications of extraction and storage, DIGGERMODE is a generative behind-the-servers look into how memory works within platform capitalism. Moving through a series of sites and systems, the work narrates histories of willing participation in predatory markets and explores how Indigenous artists have manipulated technological and representational forms in the struggle to inscribe one’s self within a regime of inscription.
