𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗸 #18, Mary Sue / 沈秀鹏 Siew Png Sim

With a prolific discography beyond his years, spanning from mixtape, collaborations to Soundcloud loosies; Singaporean Rapper/Producer sweetmarysue’s sound of sludgy, fractured sample loops and stream of conscious writing has continued evolving with every upload. Straying from conventional song structures and standard studio recording, Sue’s releases are better understood as cut fragments of a larger whole; soundtracked voice memos of introspection.

Releasing music with London based hip-hop collective “Higher Self”; his 2022 debut album KISSES OF LIFE, garnered critical praise from various platforms such as NME, LIFTED Asia and HipHop-DX. It was included in Bandcamp’s “Top 10 Hip Hop Albums of 2022”. 2023 saw Sue featured on Bandcamps Best Hip Hop releases again with his collaborative album with UK beat-maker Psychedelic Ensemble “CACOPHONOUS DIGRESSIONS, A RECORD OF A MOMENT IN TIME”.

Accompanying his live band performances is clementisound Appreciation/Experimental Club. Featuring many familiar faces from Singapore’s indie music favourites, they made their debut in local underground favourite festival Dogfest, and went on to play in the Annexe Theatre for Baybeats. Mary Sue and the Clementi Sound capped off their busy first year with a multi-city Asia tour going to Kuala Lumpur, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The 【雒書 / Luo Shu】, or magic map of the seven stars, that Yu the Great found imprinted on the shell of a turtle emerging from the Luo River. The Luoshu sets out the Eight Trigrams surrounding a central number where all numbers connect into a pattern of zig-zag lines.
